BACKGROUND: When Charles Goodnight started bringing cattle into the area, he purchased land in 1882 to form the 140,000 acre Quitaque Ranch also known as the Lazy F Ranch. In 1911, Jim and John Taylor purchased a portion of that ranch to establish the Taylor Ranch. After dividing the ranch operations in 1929, Jim Taylor retained the “home place” which is now known as the Pole Canyon Ranch. The ranch is still operating as an actively leased cattle operation. Today, other activities have been added – hunting, lodging and horseback riding. Pole Canyon Ranch contains approximately 6,000 acres of beautiful caprock cayonlands.
ITINERARY: Enjoy the Memorial Day Weekend with the Panhandle Trail Riders Association as they host a weekend full of fun and great trail riding. Dinner will be available Saturday and Sunday with lunch for riders.
